Pune airport’s runway to remain closed between 9 am to 11:30 am

Pune: The Pune airport from Wednesday will be 24 hour operational with a total of 100 flight movements between 8am until midnight, Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said.

Apart from this, the airport will remain closed for civil flight operations between 9am to 11:30am from Sunday to Friday on account of practice sessions of IAF jets and between 11am to 5pm on Saturdays for runway maintenance. Earlier, the runway was reserved for the sortee sessions of the IAF jets between 6:30am until 8am.

“The schedule is still being finalised but until 12 midnight there will be around 50 departures and 50 arrivals. The rest of the schedule will be finalised by late evening hours. The IAF has told us that they will use the runway for their operations between 9am to 11:30am on weekdays and on Sunday. During this time, no civil flights will be operational,” the director said.

The new IAF timings will be tough for many business flyers who prefer early morning hours. “Yes It will be a problem but one has to manage now. With night and red eye flights starting, frequent business flyers like us will have to take those flights a day in advance,” a frequent flyer told TOI.

An official with the airport told TOI that the MES ( military engineering services) had completed the Airfield Lighting System (AFLS) on Tuesday.
