Three int'l flyers test Covid positive on arrival at Delhi airport

New Delhi: Amid rising concerns over the Omicron coronavirus variant, three international passengers on Monday, December 6, tested Covid positive at the Delhi international airport. They tested positive during the testing of passengers on arrival.

Their samples will be sent for genome sequencing to confirm which strain of the virus has infected them.

Two of the passengers had flown in from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, while the other had flown in from Kyiv in Ukraine. They have been transferred to LNJP hospital

India's tally of Omicron variant cases on Sunday rose to 21 after Delhi and Rajasthan reported their first cases and Maharashtra added seven more cases of the new variant. So far, Omicron variant cases have been reported in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi and Rajasthan.

India on Monday registered 8,306 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours, 6.6 per cent lower than Sunday. It brought the total caseload to 3,46,41,561. The country also reported at least 211 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total reported death count to 4,73,537.
