Trichy: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of the Customs department has recovered 850g of gold ingots worth Rs 42 lakh from a flight that arrived at Trichy international airport from Dubai here on Saturday.
According to customs officials, the authorities conducted a search in the flight after grounding at the Trichy international airport, based on information.
During their search, they found two abandoned packets with paste-like materials concealed under the sidewall of aircraft, port side. They recovered it from the flight (6E 1998) that came from Dubai on Saturday.
On extraction, the gold ingots of 24K purity were seized under the Customs Act 1962. Further investigations are on, officials said.
