6.2 kg gold seized at Kochi airport; 7 passengers held

Kochi: In yet another case of drug smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) unit on Monday intercepted seven passengers who had arrived on different flights at the Kochi airport in the early hours of the day. The officials also seized 6.2 kg of gold in compound form from their possession.

According to a report published in The New Indian Express (TNIE), acting on a tip-off, the DRI team conducted an inspection of passengers at the Kochi airport, following which they intercepted a passenger Ratheesh had who arrived on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah.

About 1.10 kg of gold compound was seized from his possession.

Similarly, 570 grams of gold was seized from another passenger named Mohammad Ashraf, a native of Kasaragod who had arrived in a Fly Dubai flight from Dubai.

As per TNIE reports, further checking by the officials led to the seizure of 1.6 kg of gold from passengers named Ansil and Ashhar who had arrived on a SpiceJet flight from Dubai. Both are the natives of Perinthalmanna and Muvattupuzha respectively.

Similarly, other passengers named Sainul Abid, Noufal and Abdulla, who arrived on a Saudia flight from Jeddah were found with 1 kg of gold each which they had concealed in compound form in their rectums.
