Ministers’ busy schedule keeps Keshod airport grounded

Rajkot: Even thought it was scheduled to start on March 12, the inauguration of Keshod airport and operation of the first flight to Mumbai from the airport remained postponed . Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was supposed to come for the inaugural function.

Director of Keshod airport, P L Prasanna said, “The civil aviation minister was busy in bringing back Indian students stranded in Ukraine and the chief minister too is not available today owing to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Gujarat visit. The new schedule of inauguration will be announced very soon.”

However, a test flight operated between Keshod and Mumbai on Saturday though commercial operation will start only after the formal inauguration of the airport. According to sources, about 22 people had booked tickets for the first flight from the airport that has been developed under the revival of airports scheme of the central government at a cost of Rs 25 crore.

Alliance Air, under regional connectivity scheme (RCS)-UDAN, will start the flight operations.
