Bengaluru: Flyer held up over soft copy of ID proof

Bengaluru: Earlier this week, a young woman who showed a soft copy of her ID proof on her mobile phone was denied entry into Kempegowda International Airport. She was allegedly made to wait outside the gate by Central Industrial Security Force personnel for an hour before being let in with a warning that she had violated rules as a soft copy is permitted only on government-specified apps.

Yamini Soni, 23, a finance consultant and resident of CV Raman Nagar, was going to Bhopal because of a medical emergency involving her mother. It was her first flight.

Around 4.45am on Monday, her husband Anusheel Soni, a scientist with DRDO, dropped her off at the airport. At one of the departure gates, a CISF constable inspected Yamini’s documents and denied her entry stating she needed to show a hard copy of her ID card instead of a soft copy. Realising something was amiss, Anusheel rushed in to check.
