Bengaluru: Man held for duping people on pretext of promising airport jobs

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old man has been arrested by Bengaluru police for allegedly cheating people on the pretext of promising them jobs at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The accused has been identified as Deependra Bahadur Dhami, a resident of Bengaluru and has been booked under sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused had put up notices at several spots at the underpass under the Hebbal flyover assuring jobs pertaining to cleaning, maintenance and other jobs at the airport. Till now, police have identified four victims who fell into his trap and lost their money.

When the victim used to dial Dhami asking for a job, he would ask them to pay sums ranging between Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000. After collecting the money, he stopped taking calls and made himself unreachable, police said.

"The individual had put up bit paper notices at many spots at the underpass under the Hebbal flyover assuring jobs pertaining to cleaning, maintenance and other ordinary jobs at the airport. One individual, Sudhakar, had paid him Rs 37,000," DCP (North East) Anoop A Shetty was quoted by the New Indian Express as saying.

Police said most of the victims who lost their money were migrant labourers looking for better job opportunities.
