Kanpur: A major mishap was averted after a Coast Guard Dornier 228 aircraft skidded off the runway and rammed into a solid structure at the Chakeri airport.
The aircraft was travelling to Chakeri in Kanpur, where the HAL facility is located.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
The incident which took place on Thursday, came to light after the video of the same went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.
According to Chakeri airport director, BK Jha, while landing the Dornier aircraft coming from Chennai to Kanpur, its left engine had developed a snag and it failed. After this, the aircraft skidded off the runway and steered to the right and came to a halt after colliding with a solid structure.
The aircraft also caught fire, but the pilot and the Air Force personnel aboard the plane managed to escape.
Airport director BK Jha said the cause of the accident is being ascertained.
