Evacuated Indians get warm welcome from IndiGo, SpiceJet; Vedanta lauds pilots for 'brave feat'

Leading airlines - Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo - joined hands to bring back the citizens home safely who were stranded in parts of Ukraine where Russia launched a major military offensive.

To comfort the evacuated citizens, the airlines customised their in-flight announcements with a special message.

IndiGo pilot, Yash Siddhu, said that he and his team were 'very happy' to fly the passengers on board back to their families from Budapest after days of worrying.

"You have demonstrated an amazing show of strength and deserve a round of applause. You are the real heroes... Sit back, relax and get some sleep," he concluded.

Captain Medha Ghosh, during its flight from Bucharest to Mumbai, said that the Air India Express (AI Express) team was honoured and humbled to airlift the fellow citizens from the distressing situation.

"A big kudos to the team and staff who flew this historic mission. It is a proud moment for AI Express and Tata Group to be a part of your journey to safely take you back to your loved ones. Rest well while we take care of your comfort and safely take you home," the announcement concluded.

During the journey from Budapest to Delhi, the SpiceJet team said it was 'very happy' to see every one, and were proud of their 'courage and determination'.

"You overcame the uncertainty, hardship and fear, and have made it here safely. Now, it's time to go back to your motherland. Sit back, relax, destress and get ready to meet your family," the pilot said during the in-flight announcement.
