15 Delhi flights diverted to Jaipur due to bad weather

Jaipur: Record 15 flights including five international aircraft on way to Delhi made emergency landings in Jaipur on Monday due to bad weather conditions in the national capital, airport officials said.

Of these five international flights, four were big carriers with 250-300 passengers in each. They included a Polish Airlines aircraft from Warsaw, an Air India flight from Tel Aviv, Air Canada flight from Toronto, a flight from Muscat and an Ethiopian airlines plane.

“Five international flights and 10 domestic flights made emergency landing in Jaipur on Monday morning owing to bad weather conditions in Delhi. The air traffic team handled the situation very well with back-to-back emergency landings. This is the first time that so many international flights made emergency landings. All were sent safely to their destination after weather conditions improved,” said a spokesperson of Jaipur airport.

The spokesperson further said passengers of Polish Airlines were sent to Delhi via air-conditioned buses as the flight had to return, but other flights took off for the national capital after weather conditions improved.

Four domestic flights from Jaipur airport were also cancelled on Monday because of weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for Delhi on Monday predicting light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied with squall (speed50-60kmph).
