Air passenger traffic inching close to pre-pandemic levels at Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The passenger traffic at the Coimbatore international airport is inching close to pre-pandemic levels as 1,95,706 had used the airport in the month of April, according to the data released by the Airports Authority of India.

It was the highest number of passengers travelled from or to the airport since Covid-19 pandemic struck flight operations in April 2020.

It includes 12,477 international passengers.

There was an increase of 8.33% of passengers using the airport compared to its previous month of March. With new flights being introduced, the airport will achieve its pre-Covid level soon.

The airport had handled 2.18 lakh passengers, including 20,209 international passengers, in April 2019. The numbers are well within the reach in a couple of months with new flights scheduled to be operated, aviation enthusiasts feel.

Recently, Vistara launched its maiden flight service from Coimbatore, adding the city as the 31st route in its list. While it has already launched Coimbatore-New Delhi and Coimbatore-Mumbai flight services, it is scheduled to launch two flight services to Bengaluru from June 3 onwards, officials said.
