M’luru-Delhi flight resumes on July 1

Mangaluru: After a long wait, the coastal city will again directly get connected to Delhi by air, starting July 1. This was proposed in the summer schedule.

IndiGo airlines will start the service, with four non-stop flights per week, on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The two hour 35 minutes, non-stop flight, will depart from Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) at 10.45am, and the flight from Delhi to Mangaluru departs at 7.40am. Meanwhile, the recently introduced, four times a week, Delhi-Pune-Mangaluru flight, will continue its service.

According to aviation industry sources, the direct flight to the capital was proposed in the summer schedule, and is being made operational starting July 1. It is a re-introduction of the direct daily flight that operated prior to the pandemic, and the only difference is that now it is four times a week. Aviation enthusiast Anvesh Bhat, commenting on the re-introduction of the service, tweeted from the handle @BhatAnvesh, “Yes, its happening finally!!! Will surely be a successful flight. Timings are quite good too.”

Another aviation geek, with the handle Travelgeek @geek_ixe, commented that it was a route that was in demand from students as well as businessmen. Currently one has to spend more than five hours to reach Delhi, via connecting flights from different airports in the country.

Earlier, the airline that operated flights to Delhi, stopped its service, citing poor passenger load. However, the passengers who travelled in Delhi-Mangaluru flights, had complained that the flight operated late at night. It was not feasible due to safety reasons and convenience, the passengers said. “The current timings are convenient to travel,” commented a traveller.
