Chennai: Customs officials have seized around 2.6kg of gold and several electronic goods including iPhones from three passengers at the Chennai airport.
About 1.25kg gold in paste form was seized from P Mani of Kallakurichi who arrived from Dubai on Thursday. Customs officials said that he concealed the gold in his rectum.
Similarly, Abdul Rahman and Mohammed Habibullah of Manali and Trichy who arrived from Dubai on Friday were intercepted and 1.4 of gold in paste form as well as chains were seized from them. The two also smuggled electronic goods, saffron and cigarettes hiding them in their baggage to evade tax. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be Rs 1.37 crore.
