Seaplane services from Visakhapatnam likely

Visakhapatnam: The Union minister of state for civil aviation General (Retd) VK Singh said that the ministry would be willing to consider proposals if submitted by airline operators under the UDAN scheme in future rounds of bidding for new routes. So far, no airline has submitted any bid from the Visakhapatnam cruise terminal for UDAN seaplane and helicopter operations. The central government has sanctioned 28 seaplane routes under the UDAN scheme. For this, 14 water aerodromes are being constructed in six states and Union Territories at a cost of 287 crore, including at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada in AP and Nagarjunasagar reservoir in Telangana. Each would be constructed at an estimated cost of 20 crore.
