Airports Authority of India to refund Surat taxpayers’ hard-earned money to the Gujarat Government

Surat (Gujarat) [India]: Finally, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will reimburse the Gujarat Government for Surat taxpayers' hard-earned money. Because of an alert citizen, AAI has admitted its error and begun the refund process for the electricity charges collected from commercial rented stores and other concessioners inside the airport terminal building over the last few years to the Roads and Building (R&B) department.

According to an agreement signed in 2006 between the Gujarat Government and the AAI, the latter is provided with various utility services, including water and electricity, at no cost for the development of the Surat airport. Because of the rapid development of Surat airport in recent years, AAI rented stores, and back and front offices for airlines and provided them with electricity connections while failing to deposit the electricity charges to the R&B department—the R&B department ultimately pays the airport's electricity charges to the Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL).

The concerned person, who requested that The Blunt Times not reveal his identity, finally filed a complaint on the Government of India's Public Grievance (PG) Portal after numerous follow-ups and inquiries with the AAI.

The Public Grievance Officer (PGO) on behalf of the AAI sent a reply to the concerned citizen stating that it is intimated that as per the Electrical Section, the procession of the refund of the amount collected from the concessionaries and private parties against the electricity consumption has already been initiated. Once all the involved formalities are completed; the refund shall be made to the Executive Engineer, Surat ( R&B) Division-1.
