Faridabad: Nine arrested for airline job scam

Faridabad: Busting a racket of cheating on the pretext of offering airline jobs, the cyber cell of the district police has arrested nine persons.

DCP, Crime, Nitish Aggarwal said the accused, identified as Deepak Singh, Surender Pratap Singh, Manvender Singh, Ajit Singh, Shivam Singh, Mohit, Satyam Singh, Rajat Sengar and Vinit Singh, all hailing from UP, had been operating a fake call centre from Dwarka Mor in New Delhi, from where they used to call aspirants seeking jobs through job websites like shine.com. He said one of the accused called up one Avnish (21), a local resident, in April and offered him a job in Indigo Airlines.

The caller allegedly told the victim that he was calling from Shine.com and referred to his biodata. It is revealed that the caller got an interview conducted online and sent a selection letter on a fake letterhead of the airline.

“As this led the victim to believe the offer, he agreed to pay the fee sought in the name of registration, security charge, medical and training centre fee. The police said the victim was made to transfer a total of Rs 6.65 lakh online. The contact number provided to him was switched off immediately after the payment was made in July.

The victim lodged a complaint on July 27, following which the cyber cell team managed to nab three of the accused soon. While the main accused, Deepak, Manvender and Ajit, were remanded in 10 days’ police remand, the rest were taken in three-day police custody.
