Akasa Air announces two new routes, new flights

Akasa Air has announced it is introducing two new routes: Bengaluru - Ahmedabad from August 23, and Mumbai - Chennai from September 15.

The airline backed by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala is gearing up to launch its commercial operations in the country later this week.

The airliner as part of its plans for pan-India network connectivity, would also add new daily flights on the Bengaluru - Mumbai route from August 30.

"We are progressively expanding our network and connecting more cities," the new airline tweeted.

"With the first flight scheduled to take off on August 7, we have seen tremendous response for booking from travellers and our first flight got sold out within a day of going live," Akasa Air co-founder and chief commercial officer Praveen Iyer said.

Akasa Air has an aircraft arriving every fortnight, and this helps it augment its network and progressively add more cities along new sectors, he said.

Flying with its airline code QP, Akasa Air will connect Mumbai-Ahmedabad on its inaugural day of August 7. The airline is scheduled to later expand the routes to Bengaluru-Kochi (August 12 onwards), Bengaluru-Mumbai (August 19 onwards), Bengaluru-Ahmedabad (August 23 onwards).
