DRI seizes over 5 kg gold worth Rs 3 crores at Coimbatore airport

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 5.6 kg gold worth Rs 2.94 crores at Coimbatore airport on Monday.

The DRI officials intercepted six passengers at the Coimbatore airport on the basis of specific intelligence gathered.

The passengers brought gold in concealment from Singapore to Coimbatore by Scoot Airlines flight on October 3, in their baggage.

The gold, brought by the passengers, was in the form of crude chains and bangles. The gold was recovered from their pant pockets, underwear and baggage.

The DRI officers arrested two passengers named Mohammed Afzal (32) of Chennai whose seized value exceeded one crore and hence non-bailable offence is remanded in Coimbatore Prison under Judicial Custody.
