As the spell of cold waves continued to grip many cities across the country, the dense fog owing to this has adversely affected air traffic. Two SpiceJet flights were cancelled, and two others were delayed due to poor weather conditions, leaving passengers stranded at the Pune airport for hours.
Although the weather was clear at the Pune airport, other locations from which planes were scheduled to arrive were disrupted, affecting the carriers’ total flight schedule.
Many passengers who had already arrived at the airport to catch their flight were stranded for hours as they had no choice but to wait or make other travel arrangements on their own. Senior citizens and children were among the travellers stranded at the airport for hours in the freezing weather. Spicejet officials confirmed that flights between Pune and Bangalore and Pune and Ahmedabad were cancelled on Wednesday.
The airline has reported poor visibility at several airports across the country and the passengers were advised to check the flight schedule before departing for the airport. According to Spicejet’s official Twitter handle, low visibility was recorded at the airports of Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Dharamshala, Rajkot, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Darbhanga, Patna, and Bagdogra, affecting the flight schedule. On Wednesday, 94 flights, both local and international, were scheduled to depart and arrive from Pune Airport.
