Trichy: Customs officials at Trichy international airport seized US dollars equivalent to about 17 lakh from two passengers on Saturday.
According to sources, Air Intelligent Unit of the customs department got suspicious over the activities of a passenger who was about to board a Kuala Lumpur bound flight belonging to Malindo Air at Trichy international airport on Saturday.
On checking his luggage, they they found concealing $12,000 US equivalent to 9.66 lakh.
He was also carrying 13.10 lakh. Officials seized the currency notes and inquiries are under way.
In another incident, the authorities seized $9,200 equivalent to 7.41 lakh from a passenger bound for Sharjah by Air India Express (Flight Number IX-613) on Saturday.
