Ticket downgraded involuntarily? Airlines will now have to refund up to 75% cost

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the regulatory body for civil aviation in India, has announced new reimbursement policy for passengers who are affected by the downgrading of their tickets.

The DGCA has amended its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section-3 to allow the passenger, who is downgraded involuntarily and is carried in a class lower than that for which the ticket is purchased, to be reimbursed by the airline.

The reimbursement will be as follows:

For domestic sector: 75% of the cost of ticket including taxes

For international sector:

1) 30% of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights of 1500km or less

2) 50% of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights between 1500km to 3500km

3) 75 % of the cost of ticket including taxes for flights more than 3500km
