Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, wife get relief from ED action till Jan 31

The Bombay High Court has granted interim relief to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal and his wife, Anita Goyal, in connection with a money laundering case registered against them by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The high court has ordered the ED not to take any coercive action against the couple till the next hearing, which is to be held on January 31.

Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice PK Chavan granted them interim relief while hearing a plea filed by the Goyals seeking to quash the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR).

The case was based on a First Information Report registered by the Mumbai Police at MRA Marg Police Station based on a complaint filed by a travel agency that accused the Goyals and their company, Jet Airways, of cheating, criminal conspiracy and forgery.

The travel agent claimed that it had suffered a loss of over Rs 46 crores after the airline cancelled its flight operations in October 2018.

The Goyals' attorneys, Ravi Kadam, Abad Ponda, and Ameet Naik, drew attention to a closure report that the Mumbai Police had submitted in March 2020, concluding that there was no basis to the criminal case and that the issue appeared to be civil in nature.
