Flyer hiding gold paste in jeans nabbed at Kempegowda International Airport

Bengaluru: A smuggler, 38, was nabbed after he landed at Kempegowda International Airport from Bangkok wearing custom-stitched jeans fitted with gold paste worth Rs 30 lakh in tiny pouches.

Sources with the air intelligence unit of Bengaluru Customs said the passenger — from Karnakata — was caught on Thursday night after he landed from Thai Airways flight TG 325. Sleuths said his short trip to Thailand raised suspicion. Customs officers frisked him to find something unusual about the jeans he was wearing. They realised he had stitched small pouches containing gold paste (526 grams) to the fabric.
