Three held for smuggling gold worth Rs 2.2 crore from Singapore

Coimbatore: Sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence apprehended three passengers, including two women, at the city airport on Friday for smuggling 3.73kg of gold worth around Rs 2.2 crore from Singapore.

Based on a tip, the DRI officials detained Abubacker Siddiq, 34, Priya, 36, both from Trichy and Srimathi, 29, from Coimbatore, who arrived at the city international airport from Singapore in a Scoot Airlines flight, on Friday morning.

“We checked them and found gold concealed inside underwear and in rectum. We took them to a hospital and recovered gold concealed in rectum. Subsequently, they were arrested on Saturday,” said an officer.
