2 kg gold worth more than Rs 1 crore seized at Chennai airport

Chennai: Customs officials at the Chennai airport have seized more than two kg gold worth more than ₹1 crore from four passengers in two days.

On Tuesday, 1.060 kg gold was seized from two passengers, one of them a woman. The woman, who flew from Singapore, had hidden 550 gram of gold in her hand baggage whereas the male passenger who landed from Dubai had hidden 510 gram of gold in paste form.

On Monday, two passengers who carried 1.109 kg gold were secured and the metal was seized. One of them who arrived from Colombo had hidden 625 gram gold in his rectum while the other passenger who arrived from Sharjah had hidden 484 gram in shoes. The total value of the seizure in two days is estimated to be ₹1.08 crore. Further investigations are on.
