Now, United suspends Delhi-Chicago for entire summer; airline currently has only one India flight

New Delhi: United has now suspended its daily nonstop between Delhi and Chicago for the entire summer, which means it may resume only in October-end. This means passengers who had booked this sector will now need to be rescheduled by United either on other airlines on adjusted on its Delhi-Newark — the only flight being operated by the carrier as of now.

The US mega carrier had last year suspended its Delhi-San Francisco and Mumbai-Newark nonstops after Russia’s war on Ukraine meant taking much longer routes as several airlines, including United, are since then not overflying Russian airspace. American operates a Delhi-New York daily and Delta is yet to resume India flights after March 2020.

Air India, on the hand, under the Tatas has been adding US nonstops given the massive demand for travel between the two countries and especially as Covid has fuelled the demand for direct connectivity. It has resumed Bengaluru-San Francisco. AI currently has 37 weekly nonstops to the US destinations like New York, Newark, Washington DC, San Francisco and Chicago. It is linking Mumbai and San Francisco also.
