4 SL women among 5 held with 2kg gold at airport

Chennai: Customs sleuths at Chennai airport have seized 2.03 kg gold worth more than 1 crore from five passengers.

Four of them are Sri Lankan women who had arrived from Colombo a few days ago and were intercepted at the airport. During interrogation, they admitted to having hidden gold on them in paste form. The search yielded nearly 1.5 kg gold worth 80.5 lakh.

Similarly, another male passenger who arrived from Abu Dhabi on the same day, was intercepted and found to be carrying 518 grams of gold hidden in his rectum. In total, 2.03 kg gold worth more than 1 crore was seized from the smugglers.
