When US Ambassador Eric Garcetti apologised to Shah Rukh Khan after he was detained at LA airport in 2016

Shah Rukh Khan invited US Ambassador Eric Garcetti at Mannat, where they had a hearty conversation about Bollywood, Hollywood, and more. He even posted many a photo from their visit. Their meeting takes us back in time (in 2016) when SRK was stopped at the US airport for the third time. After he took to Twitter to complain about how it ‘sucks’ to be detained every single time, Garcetti later posted an apology on Twitter.

It was in 2016 when Shah Rukh Khan was stopped at LA airport for the third time in a span of seven years. The exact reason for the detention was not clear to Indian officials. On the wee hours of August 12, 2016, SRK had taken to Twitter and written, “I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really sucks (sic).”

He further mentioned, “The brighter side is while waiting caught some really nice Pokemons (sic)”, while talking about the much-hyped game.

Shah Rukh Khan’s detention and tweet first drew an apology from US state department official, Nisha Biswal. On the same day, she tweeted, “Sorry for the hassle at the airport, @iamsrk - even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening! (sic).”

Later that same day in 2016, US Ambassador Eric Garcetti apologised to SRK on Twitter and wrote, “Sorry for the trouble at LAX @iamsrk. We are working to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Your work inspires millions, including in the US (sic).”
