Air India passenger suffers scorpion bite on a flight

In a rare incident onboard an aircraft, a scorpion bit a passenger on a domestic Air India flight.

Flight AI630 was operated by an Airbus A319, registered as VT-SCV, from Nagpur Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) to Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM) on April 23, 2023. During the domestic flight, a scorpion bit a passenger, in what the airline has called an “extremely rare and unfortunate incident”.

“On landing the said passenger was attended by the doctor at the airport and subsequently was treated at the hospital and discharged. Our officials accompanied the passenger to the hospital and offered all support to the passenger till discharge,” added an Air India spokesperson, as reported by local media.

The airline proceeded to follow all necessary protocols, conducting an investigation of the aircraft, and subsequently, personnel found the culprit of the bite. Afterward, employees on the ground carried out fumigation to disinfect the Airbus A319.

“We sincerely regret the agony and inconvenience caused to the passenger,” concluded the representative of the airline.

Following the bite, the aircraft returned to service on April 25, 2023, flying from BOM to Aurangabad Airport (IXU), India.
