Kolhapur: Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday asked the airport authorities to complete the work on the new terminal building, coming up on 3,900 sqm at Kolhapur airport, before Dasara this year, which is on October 24.
Scindia is on a two-day tour of Kolhapur as part of the BJP’s Sansad Pravas Yojana. As part of the yojna, ministers are allocated Lok Sabha constituencies to review Centre-sponsored schemes and projects.
On the first day of his visit, Scindia went to the Kolhapur airport. He had visited the airport earlier this year, in January, as well as in October 2022. In January, Schindia had asked the authorities to complete the work by March 31. However, due to certain undisclosed reasons, the work slowed down. The civil aviation minister has now set another deadline for the project. He said the work should be wrapped up by Dasara, which is on October 24 this year.
“I have asked the authorities to complete the work before the Dasara festival. The new building will showcase the history and culture of Kolhapur city to the passengers arriving from everywhere,” said Scindia.
He further said a vast garden will be developed in the surroundings of the new terminal building.
“I have asked the authorities to set up a statue of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj. Attractive lights will be installed. I will try to ensure more flights operate from the airport as well,” he said.
