Kerala nurse who assisted in mid-air delivery found dead in UK

Prathibha Kesavan, a Malayali nurse, who helped another Malayali woman in a mid-air delivery two years ago is found dead at her UK residence on May 29. Prathibha was working at Addenboorke's Hospital in Cambridge in the UK. The cause of the death is yet to be determined but her friends and family suspect she had a heart attack, reported Onmanorama.

Prathibha hailed from Kumarakom and she was found dead at her residence a few hours before her flight to Kerala. She has been working in the United Kingsom for the last two years.

Her sister, who lives in London, was trying to reach her and when Prathibha did not respond to the calls, she reached out to their mutual friends.

Prathibha Kesavan drew attention after she assisted for a mid-air delivery in 2021. In October 2021, a Malayali woman on an Air India flight from London to Kochi suffered labour pains when Prathbibha, who was on the same flight, had assisted Pathanamthitta-native Mariya Philip delivered a baby boy mid-air.

Air India had posted on social media about this feat. They said they were en route to Kochi when the delivery happened and they landed in Frankfurt with the new baby boy. Air India wrote, "The flight was diverted to Frankfurt so that mother and baby could get immediate medical attention. Air India officials at Frankfurt were in all readiness when the flight landed there and mother & baby were taken immediately for necessary medical attention."
