Go First crisis: Pilots offered Rs 1 lakh extra per month to stay at airline

New Delhi: Cash-strapped airline Go First has planned to raise the salaries of its employed flight captains by Rs 1 lakh per month and Rs 50,000 for first officers in a bid to stop them from leaving the airline after it filed for bankruptcy.

The additional pay or retention allowance will come into effect from June 1, reported Bloomberg News on the basis of an email sent to pilots.

The publication reported that the retention allowance will be extended to even those who left the company but are willing to withdraw their resignations by June 15.

In addition, the airline plans to introduce a longevity bonus for long-serving staff.

As of now, Go First’s flight captains earn about Rs 5.30 lakh per month, according to the Bloomberg report which is based on data on AmbitionBox. This is significantly lower in comparison to SpiceJet, which recently increased the salaries of its pilots to Rs 7.5 lakh per month.

The development comes after many pilots and other airline staff sought to exit the company following the initiation of bankruptcy proceedings. Go First has suspended operations till May 30 as it struggles with multiple financial challenges and it is not yet confirmed if it will resume operations in the future.
