Boeing's CEO Meets India's Prime Minister After Historic Air India Order

Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday following Air India's massive aircraft order announced earlier this year. The two met in Washington, DC, to discuss the manufacturer's partnership with India.

Air India finalized its order for 220 Boeing jets at the Paris Air Show last week. The move, being Boeing's largest order in South Asia to date, underscores the company's importance and commitment to the airline and country.

In a statement, Calhoun mentioned that Boeing supports the commercial aviation market in India.

“Boeing is proud to be playing a key role in the rapid expansion of India’s commercial aviation market, and in the mission readiness and modernization of the nation’s defense forces. We support Prime Minister Modi’s Make in India initiative, with more than 5,000 people in India pursuing high-quality careers doing innovative work on the Boeing team."

According to the India Brand Equity Foundation, the Make in India initiative facilitates investments, innovations, and skill development to transform the country into a global manufacturing hub.

Air India announced a historic order for 470 Boeing and Airbus aircraft in February as part of its redevelopment plans under a new parent company. Although the airline signed agreements with Airbus and Boeing indicating that it would acquire the aircraft, the purchase agreement was not signed until last week.
