Two held for smuggling gold

Lucknow: Two passengers were caught by airport customs department sleuths for smuggling 7.39 kg gold worth Rs 4.5 crore.

Hailing from Gopalganj district of Bihar, the duo was supposed to handover the smuggled gold to an unknown person outside the airport but were caught while screening at terminal one of the international airport.

Speaking to TOI, Andrew Haq, assistant commissioner of customs team, who led the operation, said, “The two accused are couriers of the smuggling cartel. They arrived on Monday night from a flight which came from Muscat. They had hidden the gold in paste form around the ankle, calf and in underwear.”

As per the details in the passport, they have used Lucknow airport to travel foreign countries back in January 2022.
