Chennai: The Chennai air customs officials seized gold weighing 918grams worth 49.7lakh from passengers who arrived from two different countries.
In the first case, two Indian male passengers who arrived from Dubai via Bahrain were intercepted by Air Customs officials at the airport exit. On examination, eight gold plates and two gold chains of 24 carat weighing 668grams were recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The gold chains have been valued at ₹36.16lakh, an official said.
In the second case, an Indian male passenger who arrived from Colombo was found with gold gold weighing 250grams, valued at 13.53lakh.
