IAF’s Kiran trainer aircraft crashes in Karnataka, pilots eject safely

A Kiran trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in an open field in a village in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district on Thursday while on a routine training sortie. Both pilots managed to eject before the crash and escaped without serious injuries, the IAF said.

The training aircraft, which had taken off from the air force station in Bengaluru, crashed in Bhogapura village, landing in an uninhabited area. District officials confirmed that the pilots, identified as Tejpal and Bhumika, suffered minor injuries. The pilots were later airlifted to Bengaluru for medical treatment.

“A Kiran trainer aircraft of the IAF crashed near Chamrajnagar, Karnataka today, while on a routine training sortie. Both aircrew ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the IAF said in a tweet.

Upon hearing a loud crash, villagers rushed to the scene and found the aircraft in flames, emitting smoke. They immediately alerted the local police and fire brigade and provided assistance to the pilots who had safely ejected and landed using their parachutes. The villagers quickly set up a temporary shelter for the injured pilots and the police cordoned off the area, arranging a makeshift tent for the pilots.
