Mumbai: Four Thai nationals who were trying to smuggle 2.8 lakh US dollars equivalent to Rs 2.28 crore were nabbed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and were handed over to Customs at Mumbai International Airport on Sunday evening.
This is the second such case of seizure of US dollars from Thai nationals in the last two days. On Saturday, the Customs had arrested two Thai nationals with USD worth Rs 1.15 crore.
In the latest case, the officers of CISF, while carrying out security searches, detected foreign currencies in the bags of four passengers who were travelling from Mumbai to Bangkok by Thai Airways. Initially, the CISF found 90,000 USD from the bag of one Thai national, Phapaphus Charoennithi, but on checking bags of three others - Kotchaphus Charoenithi, Napat Charoenithi and Jintara Saiya - they found more bundles of cash.
