Ahmedabad: A team of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) seized 947g of gold from two passengers travelling from Bangkok to Ahmedabad.
Further investigation uncovered the involvement of an airport staffer, who was apprehended, officials said.
“Acting on intelligence developed, DRI officers followed two passengers on Wednesday. The passengers handed over the smuggled gold to a staff member of the city airport in the toilet before reaching the immigration counter. The staffer tried to clear the gold bar from the premises but was intercepted and apprehended with the bar,” an official said.
