Gold worth Rs 20.3 lakh recovered from woman passenger at Pune airport

Pune: The Pune Customs on Saturday recovered gold in form of a semi solid paste from a woman passenger who had concealed it in her rectum and was trying to get out of the Pune airport after landing from Dubai.

According to the officials, the total weight of the gold, which was in form of two capsules, was 420.71 gram and its cost was estimated at Rs 20.30 lakhs. The woman (35), had travelled from Dubai to Pune on a SpiceJet flight (SG-52).

“During passenger profiling, we found that the woman was acting strangely. She was questioned and her belongings were searched. We later decided to search her thoroughly and during that process, the capsules were recovered. Concealment of good in this fashion is a clear indication that she was trying to smuggle it. She has been arrested under the provisions of the customs act,” an official said.
