Kochi: Sleuths of the customs air intelligence unit foiled yet another bid to smuggle gold into the country through Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial). The team seized gold worth approximately Rs 48 lakh from a carrier, Shoukath of Kozhikode, who arrived here on Sunday.
The passenger had arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and gold in compound form weighing 1,005g was seized from him.
“On the basis of profiling done by officers, the passenger was intercepted at the green channel. During examination, gold in paste form was found in two transparent polythene packets concealed inside the waistband of his pants and one transparent polythene packet concealed inside a specially-stitched pocket of the undergarment,” said an official.
