Bangalore International Airport police booked a passenger traveling from Paris to Bengaluru on an Air France 194 aircraft after he tried to open its rear-left emergency door mid-air. The police said the accused has a mental condition.
According to the complaint filed by the airline management, Venkat Mohith Achari, 29, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, was traveling alone and tried to open the lever of the aircraft’s emergency door four hours prior to landing in Bengaluru. The incident took place at 8 pm on July 15. On seeing this, the flight crew submitted a report to the management, based on which a complaint was registered at the airport police station.
According to police officials, the accused has a mental condition. “The accused was not drunk. He has a mental condition which is why he tried to open the lever of the emergency door. In fact, he was traveling to Bengaluru for medical treatment. He is now undergoing treatment at NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences). All passengers on board the plane were reported to be safe,” said a police officer.
