Panaji: Amid apprehensions that the electronic dance music (EDM) festival Sunburn would be shifted to a location near the Manohar International Airport, Mopa, a local group on Saturday opposed the move, citing the festival’s alleged association with “drugs, alcohol, and other illegal activities”.
The Mopa Vimantal Panchkroshi Pidit Jan Sanghatana (MVPPJS) has submitted a representation to the local panchayat, and is in the process of submitting the same to the CMO and the chief secretary.
“We are aware that the Sunburn festival organised in the past in other parts of Goa was a nuisance to locals, and there were a number of complaints that drugs, alcohol, and other illegal activities were involved during the festival,” said Bhaskar Narulkar.
“Our local youth keep away from such illegal activities, and it is our request to oppose such a move to bring Sunburn to our area. If the government moves such a proposal..., we will be compelled to oppose it by organising protest marches,” the sanghatana said.
