UP ATS arrests Hizbul Mujahideen operative in Jammu and Kashmir

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a 30-year-old man from Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on allegations of working for the proscribed terror group Hizbul Mujahideen.

Special director general (law and order) Prashant Kumar said that the man, identified as Fidaus Ahmad Darr, was nabbed based on the questioning of Raza, who was arrested on August 3.

“An ATS team had air-dashed to Jammu and Kashmir after coordinating with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Services (BCAS) and obtained permission to apprehend and bring the suspect to Lucknow,” said Kumar.

Following this, the ATS reached Anantnag and arrested Darr on August 4. Later, a transit remand was taken from the local court, and he was brought to Lucknow, said the officer.

Special DG Kumar said that Darr was presented in court on Saturday, and subsequently, the court granted a 14-day police custody remand commencing from August 6 until August 19.

ATS reported that, during the initial interrogation, the accused confessed to having brainwashed Ahmed Raza, who was already arrested in the case, for weapons training in Anantnag and introducing him to the terror outfit HM.
