Thiruvananthapuram: A Bangladesh citizen was arrested from Trivandrum airport on Friday night while trying to escape to Sri Lanka using a fake passport.
During questioning, police found that he was also in possession of a fake Aadhaar card and using it he obtained an Indian passport with the help of a West Bengal native. The fake passport and the Aadhaar cards were created in the name of Santhosh Roy, and during a detailed investigation police found that it was a fake identity.
The arrested has been identified by police as Apple Barua, 24, of Barthuara near Sathahniya near Chittagong, Bangladesh. Police are now in search of Sanjay Kumar, 40, of Kolkata Central Division for helping him to forge the documents.
The duration of his stay in India and his motives are being examined by police. The investigation into the case has been now handed over to the district crime branch, police said. The accused has been remanded after producing before a court.
