Balloon reading 'Pakistan International Airlines' found near border in Jaisalmer

New Delhi: Locals in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district spotted an aeroplane-shaped balloon carrying a 'Pakistan International Airlines' marking on it. The deflated green and white balloon was spotted by some locals in Nagaraja village on Monday evening near a border area, the police said on Tuesday.

"Pakistan International Airlines", "SGA" and some words in Urdu are written on the balloon that is shaped like an aeroplane, police said.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is the national flag carrier of Pakistan.

The matter is under investigation, the police said, while adding that no suspicious object was found near the balloon or inside it.

This is not an isolated incident of having found a balloon carrying a 'Pakistan International Airlines' sign in the territory of India. A couple of similar balloons were earlier spotted in different parts of the country.

In fact, the series of spotting the balloon with identical markings i.e. 'Pakistan International Airlines, was first reported in 2021 in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered an aircraft-shaped balloon with PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) written on it.

In November 2022, J&K Police found a balloon resembling an aeroplane found in Samba district at a petrol station. The incident was on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

Again, in March this year, a balloon, this time not inflated, was located in Amritsar's Sri Guru Ramdas Airport in Punjab. In February, an identical aircraft-shaped balloon was also found in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla.

In January 2023, a Pakistani currency note was found tied to a torn balloon in Tikkari village in Shimla district.
