On Monday, a SpiceJet passenger bound for Srinagar in North India ended up in Pune in West India. Surprisingly, the error was not realized by either the airline or the passenger until the plane reached Pune. As bizarre as it sounds, reports of passengers boarding the wrong plane are not unheard of, and the latest SpiceJet incident is not the first of its kind in India.
On July 31st, a female passenger traveling from New Delhi to Srinagar on SpiceJet flight SG8963 ended up in Pune instead. Nobody realized the mistake all through the flight, and it was only when the plane touched down in Pune that the mix-up came to light.
According to The Times of India, sources said that SpiceJet arranged for the passenger to fly back to Delhi on an IndiGo flight, from where she was ultimately put on a flight to Srinagar. A spokesperson for SpiceJet commented, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to the passenger. We have personally reached out to the affected passenger to offer our apologies and are arranging for her travel to Srinagar on Monday itself.”
The travel agency that booked the passenger on the flight also tweeted, tagging both SpiceJet and the Indian aviation regulator, the DGCA, informing about what had happened. The tweet displayed the boarding pass of the passenger giving all the details about the flight.
