$70,000 worth of Jewelry Stolen from Logan Airport, Returned to Indian Family from California

Last Wednesday the Agrawal family from California had arrived at Logan airport for a wedding ceremony. After entering a ride-share the family realized they had forgotten their suitcase on the curb, the suitcase had $70,000 worth of jewelry in it. The father, Vineet Agrawal, immediately called the police upon realizing the mistake, however when the suitcase was located it had been unzipped and the valuables were gone. A week later Massachusetts State Police were able to use airport surveillance to identify and locate a 47 year old Norwood man, and were able to recover all the pieces of jewelry to return to the family.

“I think people are getting wise to the cultural significance of jewelry just knowing that it is a custom in Indian culture of passing down jewelry from generation to generation.” Raka Agrawal told CBS Boston in an interview.

This comes on the heels of a rash of break-ins at the homes of Indian families across the state of Massachusetts, that have shook the community.

Vineet Agrawal told CBS Boston “”(I am) Incredibly grateful. I have no idea, but we can only imagine the level of coordination this has taken.”
