Retired Pune man loses Rs 2.9 lakh online in job bait

A 60-year-old man, a resident of Dhanori, was duped of Rs 2.98 lakh by cybercrooks in a job bait.

The man had retired from a private investment firm and was looking for work after. He downloaded a job application after which the crooks contacted him between April and June this year.

"Later, the crooks told him that he would get a security guard's job at the airlines counter in Lohegaon airport and asked him to transfer Rs1,000. The retired man followed the instructions and the crooks made him transfer varied amounts of money for a uniform, ID card, transport and other charges," said inspector D S Dhawale (crime) from Vishrantwadi police on Monday.

Dhawale said, "The crooks later told him that the security guard's post was filled, but they would still get him a better post in the administrative section of the airport and got him to open a 'salary account' with a nationalized bank and linked the account with their fictitious firm."

"The crooks then stopped contacting him. By the time the man realised that it was a fraud, he had already paid Rs2.98 lakh in 40 transactions via online portals and e-wallet. He filed a complaint application with the Pune cyber police which verified the same and a formal FIR was registered by the Vishrantwadi police on Sunday," he said.
