Singapore Airlines to add more flights to India in bid to expand network

Singapore’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines (SIA), said it plans to expand its India network by adding more flights to and from Indian cities.

In its business update which was released together with the financial results, the airline said it plans to increase its services between Singapore and Chennai from 17 times weekly to 21 times weekly from October 29, with Scoot commencing daily operations to the city after Singapore Airlines transfers some of its Chennai services to its low-cost sister carrier.

In addition, Singapore Airlines will progressively increase its weekly service between Singapore and Hyderabad from seven times weekly to 12 times weekly, taking over Scoot’s daily services between the two cities, ANI reported.

As part of this move, Singapore Airlines will also offer daily morning and evening services to Bengaluru.

The airlines, however, said that these adjustments and flight additions are subject to regulatory approval.

“These adjustments are part of the continuous review of the SIA Group’s network and reflect its ability and flexibility to adjust operations between Singapore Airlines and Scoot to meet evolving customer demand,” the airline said.

The airline, which prides itself as being the “most awarded airline in the world” laid claim to another accolade as it was recently named Skytrax’s best airline in the world for 2023.

The Skytrax award is widely considered as the “Oscars” of the aviation industry. The last time it was recognised as the best airline in the world was in 2018.

For the first quarter which ended in June 2023, Singapore Airlines recorded total revenue of SGD4.48 billion ($3.37 billion), a rise of 14 percent compared with the same quarter last year.
