Agra airport to be upgraded as UP cabinet approves expansion proposal

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved the proposal to expand the proposed civil enclave project in Agra and upgrade it to an international category on the lines of Noida and Ayodhya.

A total of 19 proposals were presented in the cabinet meeting, out of which 15 were approved. One of these was a proposal to upgrade the civil enclave being built in Agra to an international category.

Under the proposal, the cabinet authorised a sanction of Rs 123.59 crore for the purchase of additional proposed land of 37.4336 hectares (about 92.50 acres) for the development of Agra Airport.

Apart from the financial approval for the project, the cabinet also approved the expenditure on work related to displacement and reconstruction of assets of various government departments present in the project area to be borne by the concerned departments from their budget.

These government departments will transfer their land and assets to the Civil Aviation Department free of cost.

It is expected that funds will be released soon for the additional land to be acquired. Three villages – Dhanauli, Abhaypura and Balhaira – fall within the limits of the proposed civil enclave, from which about 100 acres of land is to be acquired. Apart from government land, compensation at four times the circle rate will be given to the farmers for whatever private land will be acquired.

The Agra airport project is being undertaken under Gati Shakti Mission to complete the new civil enclave which has been pending for years.
